Thornleigh Thunder FC: Female Football in 2026

At Thornleigh Thunder FC, we are proud to champion a thriving, inclusive football community where girls and women of all ages feel supported, encouraged and inspired. After a year of strong growth and recognition as one of the winners of the NWSF Female Football Fair Play Award, we are excited to build further momentum in 2026.

Our Female Football program continues to expand, offering opportunities from Under 6 girls right through to All Age Women, Over 30s, Over 40s and Masters teams. Whether you are completely new to the sport, returning after a break, or looking for a place to play socially or competitively, you will be warmly welcomed at Thornleigh Thunder.

A Welcoming Start for New Players

We remain committed to making football accessible and enjoyable for girls and women at every stage. Our female-only Come and Try Days and community open sessions will continue in 2026, providing a relaxed and friendly environment to meet other players, kick a ball around and discover whether football is right for you.

We also encourage mums and women across the community to come down to Grading Day. It is a great opportunity to meet others who may be interested in forming Over 30s, Over 40s or Masters women’s teams. Many of our past teams came together this way, and we would love to see more women give football a go, whether for social connection, fitness or simply fun.

Growing Our Female Pathways

Our youngest teams are already thriving, with strong interest in our Under 6 and Under 7 girls teams and continued growth across the junior age groups. As we expand, we welcome girls of any age to come together to form new teams. If you have a core group ready to play, we will actively help with recruitment, advertising and support to build your team.

This year, we are delighted to welcome a new Under 16 Girls team, which reflects the strength and spirit of our female football community. We are also increasing female-led development opportunities, including skill sessions, leadership pathways and support for young women who wish to become coaches or referees. Several of our Under 16 girls will again be mentoring and co-coaching our younger teams in 2026.

Community First

Thornleigh Thunder is, above all, a community club. We strive to provide an environment where players feel valued, safe and part of something special. Our club culture celebrates all achievements equally, on and off the pitch, and we continue to evolve our facilities, training options and events to ensure every female player feels at home.
